Braintree Village: "The Urban Development for Aspiring Youth II" -- Awarded $4,950.00
There will be two Braintree Village programs, serving 43 youth, offered under Youth RAP. (1)There will be an arts and music program for 28 youth residents ages 6-18. The program will be held in the community room from 6/27 -- 7/27 from 3:30 to 5:30 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. (2) The successful and highly popular RAP/HIP HOP program that ran during November and December 2004 will be offered from 9/26 -- 9/28 from 3:30 -- 6:30 on Wednesdays and Fridays in the community room. |

Blue Hill/Elm Hill Housing: "Blue/Elm Youth Computer Learning Initiative" -- Awarded $3,710.00
Through Youth RAP funding the popular computer learning program for resident youth, piloted in 2003 through DEG funding, will resume operation through Jamie Ryan of JRyan Solutions, Inc. This 8-week basic computer skills program will serve at total of 15 youth ages 6-18 from 7/5 -- 8/26. The program will be held from 3:00 -- 7:00 in the youth center on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, and will be divided up as follows: ages 6-12 will receive instruction from 3:00 -- 5:00, and ages 13 -- 18 will receive instruction from 5:00 -- 7:00. |

Market Mill Apartments: "Building on Strengths for Success IV" (B.O.S.S. IV) -- Awarded $4,340.00
This grant will allow Market Mill Apartments to offer two separate programs. The first is an experience and adventure program conducted by the Lowell YMCA called Urban Adventure. The program will take place from 4:00PM -- 6:00PM on Friday afternoons, 9/9 -- 10/15. The second activity is Ben Gilbarg’s 3rd EyE Unlmited video program, intended to give the youth insight into the music and video production process. It will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10AM to noon between 9/22 and11/10. |

Mishawum Park: "Mishawum Martial Arts Program" -- Awarded $4,512.00
Through this grant, the site will begin a martial arts program through Gary Card Martial Art Studios, intended to foster violence prevention. Instructors from the studios will give twenty participants, ages 6-15, 12 weeks of karate instruction, as well as the opportunity to compete in an end-of-program tournament sponsored by the Boston Police Activities League. Two 12-week sessions will be held on Thursday evenings from 4:00 -- 6:00 in the Mishawum Park community room. |

Powdermill Apartments: "The Powdermill Swimmers" -- Awarded $2,300.00
This grant will enable Powdermill to offer a summer swim instruction and water safety program to 24 youth ages 6-18. "The Powdermill Swimmers" will run from 7/25 -- 8/11 and will be held at the Powdermill pool from 9:00 -- 12:45 on Mondays through Thursdays. The days consist of five 45 minute sessions ranging from the more experienced swimmers beginning at 9AM to the younger group later in the morning. This program will be provided through the "Back Yard Pool Program" of the YMCA of Greater Westfield. |

Pynchon-Edgewater: "Youth United for Peace (YUP)" -- Awarded $2,900.00
In partnership with New North Citizen’s Council, Inc. the site will offer its youth, ages 13-17, a violence prevention program including components such as academic and career support, peer leadership workshops, and mediation training to teach youth violence prevention strategies. YUP participants will also serve as peer mentors (tutors) with younger participants. This program will run from 7/11 -- 8/19, Monday -- Friday from 1:00 -- 5:00 in the community room. |

Skyline Drive Apartments: "Skyline Drive Apartments Art Enrichment Program" -- Awarded $3,600.00
Through input from the instructor and past youth participants, the site will continue to operate a summer art program (design, preparation, and production of a site community puppet show) that has been popular with residents since 2001. However, this year’s program has been expanded to better serve the needs of both younger (4-9) and older (10-14) youth. That is, both age groups will participate in the development of the puppet show as follows: the younger group (#1) will focus on the creation of the puppets, and the older group (#2) will concentrate on script-writing and stage production. The program will serve a total of 25 youth and will run from 6/28-8/18. All program sessions will be held in the community room as follows: group one will meet from 10:00 -- 12:00 on Tuesdays, and group two will meet from 1:00 -- 3:00 (also on Tuesdays). |

United Front Homes: "United Front Rappers & Hip Hoppers" -- Awarded $3,200.00
This year the site will offer 25 youth residents, ages 13-18, Ben Gilbarg’s RAP and HIP HIP music program. Located in New Bedford, Gilbarg’s nonprofit, 3rd EyE Unlimited, is rooted in the local community and is familiar with the needs and challenges that its youth face. Unique from the Market Mill and Braintree Village programs, the United Front program will provide two field trips to the 3rd EyE Unlimited studios, giving the youth insight into the music and video production process. The program will run from 7/6 -- 8/5 and will be held in the community room from 1:00 -- 4:00 on Wednesdays and Fridays. |
